Looking forward to hearing if Lucretia has any opinion of the new Pope during this week's podcast. Then again, since it is purportedly a family show perhaps all I would hear is beep beep beep

I don't get my political opinions from my church just as I don't get my religious views from politicians.

MAGA Tried to Buy the Papacy—And Got Righteously Rejected

MAGA’s Vatican coup just collapsed in full view of the world.

After flooding Rome with donors, dangling a $1 billion bribe, and deploying smear campaigns against progressive cardinals, the Trump wing of American Catholicism aimed to hijack the Church. They didn’t want a spiritual leader—they wanted a culture war general in robes. What they got instead was Pope Leo XIV, a Chicago-born reformer (and dual citizen of Peru) who embodies everything Trumpism detests: humility, inclusion, and moral courage.

The contrast couldn’t be starker.

While MAGA’s preferred candidate would have gladly sanctified nationalism and bigotry, Leo XIV opened his papacy by declaring:

“We must seek together to be a missionary church… that is always open, like this piazza, to receive with open arms everyone—everyone—who needs our charity, our presence, our dialogue, and love.”

That’s not just a message—it’s a direct rebuke to the “us vs. them” poison that Trump and his clerical cronies have injected into public life.

Archbishop Timothy Dolan, Trump’s favorite cardinal, and groups like the Napa Institute threw lavish dinners, peddled influence, and tried to tilt the scales of the conclave. But even their billion-dollar blitz couldn’t stop the College of Cardinals from choosing someone committed to building bridges, not walls.

Pope Leo has been openly critical of both Trump and Vance, condemning their cruelty and their fundamental distortion of Christ’s teachings.

He amplified this stinging truth when closing his speech today:

“Help me build those bridges to unite as a single people always in peace.

MAGA did everything in its power to buy the keys to St. Peter’s. Instead, they got a pope who padlocked the door.

Substack needs a Thumbs Down button, so that viewers can help police the comments section.

Criticism and analysis should be a part of the Political Questions discussion. But hardcore TDS should be scrubbed... just scan everything else this nut job posts at his Substack.

Great. Another New World, Leftist leaning pope. I hope his dual American/Peruvian citizenship doesn’t portend a proclivity, similar to that of his predecessor, to attempt rooting in both the world and heaven matters.

It must be hard work to get up every morning and research stocks and news, and make the wrong prediction 100% of the time. Nobody can match Cramer’s record, except possibly Cathie Wood.

I think Steve is Protestant. Be careful. The primary mission of the pope is to safeguard doctrine. The pope personal opinions can’t change 2000 years of teaching. Even pope Honorius was condemned decades later for contradicting faith. Long live the papacy!

His selection seems to be Europe’s way of saying: “America please destroy yourself with third world immigration just like we did.” In re: ranking of love, I seem ro recall Jesus saying something about loving your neighbor, but i cant seem to recall him saying sometging like: “love strangers from across the planet exactly just as much as your neighbor.” I must have missed that in the scripture. We all interpret as we desire, i suppose. I guess he could be worse than Francis, but it would be hard to pull it off.

Yeah, the point of the parable of the Good Samaritan was the man helped somebody who *was right there and needed it* and pretty expressly not the Samaritan was looking for the "right kind of people" to help.

Habemus Papem.

The Lord will do through him what He wants done. Non potuit esse peius, it could have been worse.
