I appreciate the fact that the podcasts are now loud enough for me to be able to hear them when I'm working in the kitchen with water running.

However, I wonder why I get advertisements in German. Not complaining, I think it's kind of funny and it surprised a friend.

It was supposed to be an ad-free episode, but I must have ticked the wrong box when I posted it up.

Far as I'm concerned, keep up the German ads. I don't always sign in to listen, so I might not have gotten the ad-free version. However it happened, the sudden German gave me a smile, and those are rather hard to come by lately.

So are you going to be playing the Berlin lotto for all those potential winnings?

The 2 Whisky Hour Podcast got off to a good start.

The Steve Hayward as Pinata segment was pretty brutal though.

They say revenge is a dish best served cold; shouldn't be a problem given where you are at the moment.

If the 3WHH gang were to have an "international" meetup at one of their non-US locations like Italy, Norway or Iceland, I would seriously consider making the trip.

Not sure if we'll do another Italy academic junket this year, but if we do. . .

Beautiful Norway! That’s why Wendy and I always recommend it on our free travel advice website for independent travelers. And it doesn’t have to be expensive. A rustic cabin at a campground for $55. www.europescountryroads.com.

Lucretia great episode. Two minor points

First while value of natural law can be shown by the results that produces it's existence can be demonstrated through the use of reason alone

Second the problem with project of political science is that it tries to be a science. The field of science has increasingly purged any discussion of the metaphysic and anything that cannot be proved empirically. In order to prove and describe it narrows its focus what is the least interesting. It can describe but not explain.

Good job by John as well.

Steve, I remember Jan and Dean, and not just “The Little Old Lady (from Pasadena).” “Dead Man’s Curve.” “Surf City.” I even remember a mediocre (even bad) movie from the late ‘70s (“Deadman’s Curve” starring Bruce Davison and Richard Hatch). Beach Boys wannabes definitely, but still some songs that get play on the stations playing music from the ‘60s.

I have a cousin whose legal specialty was insurance cases like malpractice and auto accidents. He once had a case where the plaintiff was a little old lady from Pasadena who was being less than candid in her testimony. He was always a better musician than a lawyer, so he actually incorporated the song into his closing statements by singing the chorus.

He won the case on behalf of his client.

Ever since Steve started networking in from Europe, most of the Ricochet ads I'm getting are in German, some at least for internet gambling. I assume it's because Steve is connecting through European ISPs.

It was a lovely show and a bit less manic. Not sure if that's the difference between 2 vs 3 participants, or if this was yet another long and challenging news week and the hosts were a bit exhausted over all of it.

However, IN DEFENSE OF STEVE... how is a discussion that includes references to Wilsonian Progressivism, Marx, Ancient Greece, the Whiskey Rebellion and an obscure early 19th century Supreme Court case free of historical analogies? Poor Steve - he can't even travel on a dream vacation without a rebellion being incited. Perhaps Steve should call in the National Conservative Guard and have Michael Anton monitor the podcast in his absence.

On a more serious point -

It would be helpful for Lucretia to clarify a point in the philosophical discussion. My takeaway is she deems Marxism and Progressivism as political science because it requires a fundamental (and unrealistic) change in human behavior.

But isn't natural law derived or profoundly influenced by Judeo/Christian philosophy and morals? My "lived experience" is Christianity is inherently a religion that is solely about perfecting humanity, so that we live lives worthy of our creation in God's image. Otherwise, we pursue instinctual lives derived from an evolution guided by Darwinian principals of survival of the fittest.

If the Strauss/Jaffa political philosophy rests on natural law, then doesn't it also require human nature to be perfected along the lines of Christian principles? Granted, the American form of government was designed to reflect the inherent infallibility of man, and especially men and women who pursue great power.

But it always seems like Steve and Lucretia default to Natural Law principles. What am I not understanding?

I'm not sure what it means that it took Steve's absence for a real conversation about political philosophy versus political science to finally take place!
