It is really rich when the communists governors, mayors and senators, who spend most of their time championing abortion, homosexuality, transgenderism, heinous criminals and all manner of perversion and evil, get on their high horse about being offended as 'devout Catholics.' As an actual devout Catholic, I am offended when Joe Biden, Kathy Hochul, or Nancy Pelosi plays the Catholicism card. And when did Bill Kristol convert to Catholicism?

I'm a faithful Catholic and I thought that image of Trump as the Pope was pretty funny. What separates conservatives from liberals is that we have an actual sense of humor and can laugh at ourselves. My fellow Catholics need to lighten up.

I always enjoyed TWiP, however, i think its a little better to have a tighter set better memes more often than the one huge weekly meme dump. Hulkamania could actually be a decent religion. The three commanda of Hulkamania: EXERCISE, TAKE VITAMINS, SAY PRAYERS all you little HULKSTERMANIACS! We could do worse. And have many times.

Who’d have thought a Star Wars meme (the one with the names of the first 3 movies - a/k/a Episodes IV, V and VI) would capture my thoughts so closely. FYI, up until noon on 1/20/2017, Trump was just going to be a zillion times better than Hillary. It was during his inauguration speech that day that he became “a new hope.”

I think the tv series The Chosen shows Jesus with a wry sense of humor that I like to think the real Jesus would have. I also think Jesus would at least smile at a good meme…

The responses are funny and mostly apropos, but as a conservative Catholic — voted for Trump in spite of grave hesitations due to his support for the genocide of Gaza and his support for Zionism — I find this meme crass and offensive. And I say that as someone who rejects Hochul, Whitmer, Pelosi, Biden and all the other fake Catholics.

Just because the French Olympics insulted Christianity doesn’t mean that our side should do the same. Show some respect.

It used to be that anti-Catholicism was r

the only acceptable bigotry on the left. But they have diversified since the 19th Century.

When did Bill Kristol become a Catholic. Please yes as a member of another religion you can get upset over what people do or say about other religions -case in point Catholicism- I would not be thrilled by gross disrespect. But this. When did Kristol be come the arbiter of what is and is not acceptable.

I suspect the Hulkster has better moral clarity than many actual popes; that meme is hilarious. I say that as one who was raised Catholic and who still loves Pope John Paul II.

I am a faithful Catholic. My hunch is We are the lowest or one of the lowest in the hierarchy of group identity. In fact many including modern Catholics think Latin mass attendees are cultists. I understand it is a joke , and I also understand god will not be mocked. Don’t risk your salvation. Eternity is a long time.

The pope is from God, as are we all. He is not God.

In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a line of popes in purgatory.

Exactly. Making fun of a Pope is making fun of a human being, not God.

Quote from mystic & saint st Teresa of Avila. “If I were to commit venial sin, I feel as if I should die; and that because every sin we commit, we commit in God."

Your response presupposes that we can’t be confident about the basic teachings of the Catholic faith because we can’t get inside the mind of god. This is an absurdity in of itself. By reason alone I will demonstrate the ignorance of your thought. God’s nature is perfect goodness . By definition a perfect nature can’t tolerate any sin & even what we humans perceive as a very, very harmless act/thought. Why? B/c often small sins are the first step to much more serious sins. And a God who tolerates any sin & even the most “harmless” is a contradiction b/c a perfect God can’t tolerate any sin. Period. To claim & even in jest the most powerful politician (& most politicians are anything but holy) on earth is somehow a pope like symbol (a guardian of the faith) is not a morally neutral act in God’s eyes & by reason alone.

This is not pleasing to god as the pope is the vicar of Christ or the earthly representative of Christ. The idea that mocking the office of the papacy is not at all offensive to god is like claiming that god is neutral about how his creatures treat the sanctity of the highest office in the church - an office that witnessed three hundreds of martyrdom (almost all the popes murdered during Roman role). The people who respond like it is nothing more than a joke have no sense of the holy. God will not be mocked. & the fact some popes behaved very badly is irrelevant to this truth.

The church is both human and divine. A little humor may help to instill a bit of humility about our failings. What was it that Pope Francis said: "Who am I to judge?"

Man's Joyless Quest For Joy's avatar

The quote about judgment that everyone throws out does not mean to avoid judgment. Avoiding judgment undermines much of the gospel and morality itself. The biblical phrase about judgment refers to avoiding rash judgment. My point is unrelated to rash judgment. It simply points out by reason alone that a perfect god is incompatible with any sin including sins we have committed without our knowledge. That is why in Catholic confession you should say at the end that “ I am sorry for all the sins I committed & that I cannot recall at this moment.” Btw - something can be funny in human relations & still be offensive to god. Dark humor is one example. These ideas are not incompatible.

In that, as one faithful Catholic to another, we'll have to agree to disagree. Many Irish Catholics would tend to disagree about the use of humor. I have a beer in front of me, and I'll drink to that. Thanks for the commentary.
