Another two-fer podcast Saturday, with the Three Whisky Happy Hour back to full strength with the return of John Yoo, which we decided to mark with a special gift of his favorite toothpaste:
Lucretia hosts this week as we take on Trump at the 100 Day mark, the latest in lawfare, the dismal Canadian election, whose solution John Yoo suggests is straight up imperial conquest—why make Canada the 51st state when we can make it a territory to be exploited like Puerto Rico and Greenland? We're so back that Lucretia even revives some good old fashioned lookism in this episode!
We close with a few thoughts on the passing of David Horowitz, whose central lesson has still not penetrated the Vichycons who don't understand the metaphysical meaning of Trump.
Listen right below, or at Ricochet when it goes live later today.
Speaking of Ricochet, James Lileks, Charles C.W. Cooke and I are joined by energy dynamo Robert Bryce to break down the causes of Spain’s stupendous blackout, along with reflections on the Trump Administration’s run-ins with the judiciary; welcome progress on America’s mineral deal with Ukraine, take a few swipes at Harvard’s report on campus anti-semitism, and declare this week’s winner on Twitter.
As above, listen here, or at Ricochet:
Finally, some headlines to get you through the weekend, starting with one from 10 days ago:
Same paper, today:
The Atlantic can’t help themselves to their own advice (headline on the left from 2015):
Feel Good Headline of the Week:
The NY Times, natch:
And stand by for some long-form content this afternoon.
I concur both on the show and a one-time supporter of Prof. Yoo. (Though I suspect it really is only 25% of active commentators in the Camp Yoo and Lucretia was making a felicitous comment reflective of her dear friendship with John.)
While I found John's 'get behind Guam comment humorous', his assessment of the Trump 2.0 tariff initiative is designed to inhibit China's economic and military strength is the best comment about Trump economic policy the 3WHH crew has made so far.
All of this is designed to inflict pain and internal chaos on China to impede their ability to achieve President Xi's goal of a military able to invade Taiwan by 2027.
Consumers can squawk all they want about empty shelves at Walmart in 2025. The idea we could survive a war over TSMC's advanced semiconductor plants that produce 90% of advanced chips is preposterous. I suspect even the tech bros figured this out and this is why they support Trump.
Great show
In regard to Canada I think a Liberal government Is probably the worst case scenario for Canada and the surest way for a 51st state. A 4th term of Liberal government led by a WEF technocrat from Ontario who not only transitioned his daughter but played goalie on the Harvard hockey team? Can you say Governor Preston Manning?
This 1 time I will be part of the 40% who approve of John. I have been saying for years when accused of wanting to make Canada the 51st state that why should they think they can jump the line ahead of the Northern Mariana Islands
I give the Carney government 6 months before things start falling apart. Trump should then offer a limited time deal that those provinces which join up with us say before July 4, 2026 get statehood. Everybody else gets added to greater North Dakota
Except Ontario the eastern part from Toronto to Ottawa becomes a penal colony or a landfill.
We can turn Parliament Hill in Ottawa into a truck stop, maybe a Buc-ees.
What Trudeau did to the trucker convoy protest still rankles
