I'm sure Steve remembers when Reagan's deregulation caused the Triangle Shirtwaist fire.

I have all the receipts for when Reagan de-regulated the price of oil on January 20, 1981, and every Dem said gasoline would go from the current $1.30 a gallon to $2 or more. Instead is quickly fell below $1 and stayed there for the next decade.

Yes, but then all the land was covered in a plague of murderous, gas-guzzling SUV's, the polar ice caps melted, polar bears went extinct (crippling Inuit farming) and lunatic VW executives, driven mad by omnipresent petrol fumes, actually designed and built for mass production a W12 Volkswagen sedan (the "Phanzer," if memory serves) and expected people to buy it for more Deutschmarks than a Mercedes S class. 9 units were sold in North America, all to a Saudi sheikh who lost a golf wager to Ferdinand Piech.

On balance, the tradeoffs were not worth it. Bring back the other Steven, Mr. solar powered Chu Chu. Nine bucks a gallon for the demon guzzoline would have saved the planet and prevented the Deloitte Horizon disaster.

You may be on to something. Reagan was born on Feb. 6, 1911, and the tragic fire occurred on March 25, 1911. Coincidence? Just ask the Dems -- he was a demon child!

The problem is their voters are dumber then they are.

"Obviously, I don’t know what the hell I’m talking about."

I think we've found the perfect epitaph for old Joe's tombstone.

And, as Harry Morgan's Marshall Tibido says to John Wayne's J.B. Books in "The Shootist," "When you're gone, what I leave on your grave won't pass for flowers."

I'd have to go back and watch the video, but I think he said something similar when questioning Scalia. He's trying to "gotcha" Scalia, and Scalia is (politely) swatting him away like a fly on question after question. It's quite entertaining

Anthony Lucido's avatar

Poor, pitiable Biden trying to "gotcha" Scalia is like Lenny from "Of Mice and Men" trying to beat Spock in four dimensional speed chess.

Well done. That is a Haywardian analogy!

How much of what's said or printed gets consumed? The lunacy of AOC cannot be measured with existing technology, but if dumb was a planet, she's the Jupiter of stupid.

Unfortunately she blather and talks and it's listened to and absorbed by those who are already predisposed to believe this crap. Deloitte? How much time did she have to rehearse the evil corporation she was going to name out loud on camera? 3 days? 3 hours? 3 minutes?

Either way, she blew it (amongst other things), and now there'll be a protest tomorrow that will confuse a lot of accountants.

Pouring chemicals into the river? I worked at a Dow plant and they went DefCon 1 when a one pint spill of a pretty innocuous liquid happened in a warehouse. She must believe that stuff, but so do most Dems these days. Maybe she is merely a cynical liar who knows her audience?

The 60s thru 80s saw dramatic improvements in pollution control and cleanup, with dramatic improvements in air and water quality. This leaves too many bureaucrats trying to find the next big win for them. And they’ve never heard of diminishing returns. The notable exception is in Richland WA nuclear waste cleanup. Billions and billions have been spent and they are pretty near to starting up the classification plant. I’m pretty sure they just need another $30B and it’ll really start humming. Just checked… Grok expects total spend to be $589B thru 2100.

I was boating with a friend last year out of Anacortes, Washington, and we passed near the twin oil refineries on Fidalgo Island. He remarked about the plumes of "pollution" rising from the facility. Having spent a quarter century in the oil business, including responsibility for environmental regulations, I couldn't believe that he thought such a thing was still allowed. It was steam, of course, as they use water as a coolant.

Give them time, Steve. They will.

Ed Driscoll @ Instapundit collected even more lowlights from the AOC/Bernie show on CNN (The post has some news on Sen Fetterman as well).

My favorite was 'drinkable air'.

"The British Labour Party, barely in office for one year, has sunk to a 15% approval rating. Once Nigel Farage gets installed as prime minister, Obama will need to add England to his list of endangered democracies."

When are the next British elections? August, 2029, I believe. By then Britain will be so far down the tubes, there will be no hope of ever making a comeback. And block voting by the ever-increasing Muslim population might even prevent Farage from being elected. I don't see much of a future for Britain.

Steven F. Hayward's avatar

If Labour holds out to 2029, you'll likely be right. But I think there is a chance things will get so bad that they have to go sooner. I know Andrew Roberts and a few other Brits I know think this is a real possibility.

Ralph Fluchel's avatar

I know that elections can be called sooner than scheduled, but I don't understand enough about British politics to know how that can happen. For instance, who has the power to call an early election?

Christopher B's avatar

As I understand it, the Prime Minister still holds the office at the monarch's discretion, so the King (up)Chuck could call on Herr Stormer to either resign or declare no confidence in him (as if that would ever happen). If things got bad enough the rest of the Labour Members thought their seats were in jeopardy they could call a no confidence vote. The 5 year law only requires a sitting government to hold an election that often. It's not like our Constitutional provisions that guarantee a fixed term in office.

Dag, Steve, now you’ve reminded them of the McCarthy tool, maybe they’ll resurrect it. Hopefully they’re denying themselves of your wisdom.

SilliestString's avatar

The dems are stupid, but they may not be so stupid as to resurrect McCarthyism. After all, he was targeting communists back then. With the internet of today, most thinking people realize that dems = communists.

My concern is that we are outnumbered by the unthinking people.

If the Always Obstructed Cortex wants to assign blame for environmental damage, yes Deloitte is one guilty party but she should also blame the Gubmint for releasing so much CO2 into the atmosphere from the reckless way it burns money.

And to think that these dullards, AOC, Mad Max, Green, Conyers, Biden, Harris, and able to enrich themselves far beyond the wildest dream of most of us, grates on me. We need to pass the PELOSI act!!
